Steel Slag Micronization

Task
Micronize the steel slag to a specific surface area value of 400 – 500 m2/kg. Then prepare samples for testing the micronized slag as a substitute for cement in concrete.

Process and Results
First, it was necessary to establish a relationship between the customer’s required fineness criterion – the specific surface area value according to the permeability method (Blaine) – and the method we use for this purpose, laser diffraction. We had to conduct numerous tests and measurements to verify that, in the case of this material, it is possible to rely on the specific surface area values measured by laser diffraction.

As a result, we were able to micronize the slag to the customer’s required specific surface area value, prepare the required amount of samples, and deliver them to the appropriate testing facility.
