Jet Milling

Jet milling is a prominent micronization technique that allows friable or crystalline materials to be precisely ground to an average particle size of less than 10 microns. This process significantly increases the specific surface area of treated materials, improving their quality and applicability.

Inside the grinding chamber, the material particles undergo a surge of kinetic energy propelled by a stream of compressed air, steam, or alternative media injected into the chamber at supersonic velocities through a network of convergent or convergent-divergent nozzles positioned along the perimeter of the chamber. Micronization occurs as the particles repeatedly collide with each other and experience impact and friction against the chamber walls. The micronized material is then carried by the media stream through orifices in the center of the grinding chamber for collection and further processing along the production line.

The jet mill boasts several advantages stemming from its design and operation. Notably, it is devoid of moving parts that typically wear out over time or generate heat during operation. Furthermore, there are no sieves susceptible to clogging or puncturing, ensuring trouble-free processing.

Additionally, the cooling effect exerted by the nozzles enables the micronization of even thermolabile materials and those prone to agglomeration. This feature expands the scope of materials that can be effectively processed, contributing to the versatility and efficiency of the jet milling process. The primary advantage of jet milling is its exceptional efficiency, which ensures the purity and homogeneity of the ground material.

We use a proprietary jet mill (see image above) with nozzles arranged around the perimeter of the milling chamber in adjacent rows, with each row of nozzles angled in the opposite direction of the neighboring row. The ground material is micronized through repeated frontal collisions of particles and is carried out of the milling chamber by a stream of medium through two opposing openings at the center of the chamber. The mill automatically feeds material into the milling chamber and is suitable for micronizing materials of any hardness level.

Very Fine Fraction Sorting

For sorting fractions smaller than one millimeter, we use our proprietary sorter that operates in a compressed air environment. The sorter is adjustable to achieve the desired fraction.

Homogeneous mixing

Our sorter doubles as a homogeneous mixing tool, capable of seamlessly blending different fractions of the same material or different fractions of different materials. Using compressed air, our mixing process ensures a uniformly distributed mixture of all particles.

Crushing

If micronization is not required, or when materials need to be reduced to a particle size of up to 10 mm before micronization, we use our own crushing technology. Our capabilities extend to processing large input materials (e.g., 400x400x40 mm), including those that are hard or abrasive. We can customize the size of the output particles after crushing to meet customer requirements.
